Next Five To Woof!

One feature I like to bring to readers is an occasional projections on the next couple of players who will commit to Chris Petersen and the Washington Huskies. So without further ado here is our first installment of "Next Five To Woof!"...

2017 four-star Sammamish (Wash.) Skyline offensive guard Henry Bainivalu

As we've said repeatedly on TheDawgReport, sources have given all indications that Washington will take three offensive linemen in this years' cycle. One of the two elite prospects in the Huskies' own back yard is Bainivalu, a 6'4, 277-pound guard who would fill a couple needs for UW.

Since UW offensive line coach Chris Strausser has made a significant amount of his signings pay off, he's building for an offensive line that's at least two years away if not more. But having Bainivalu as another in-state get, and being able to play as a redshirt freshman would be huge for Strausser and Petersen.

While he's maintained he will go through the process and take his visits, Hunter Bryant said the same message a week before he made his verbal commitment. The Huskies have always been high on his list and heading into the summer months the four-star prospect could pull the trigger.

2017 three-star Newport Beach (Calif.) Corona Del Mar quarterback Chase Garbers

Washington extended an offer to Garbers last week after offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jonathan Smith saw him throw. Prior to extending the offer Garbers took an unofficial visit to Seattle on April 4 and came away impressed, but holding back only because he didn't have an offer.

Now, with the offer firmly in hand, Garbers has Washington near the top of his list with his decision coming between June and early July. Speculation has been that UW is considered the favorite, but Garbers is playing things close to his vest. Having spoken with the three-star prospect a significant amount, I feel that once he pulls the trigger Petersen and Co. will be happy with their quarterback for the 2017 class.

2017 three-star Provo (Utah.) wide receiver Ty Jones

Washington wide receivers coach Bush Hamdan has two of his three wide receivers for the class of 2017. As we've reported multiple times on the TDR, the final receiver for this class - the receiver that Hamdan has at the top of his list - is three-star prospect Ty Jones.

The one-time Utah commit has been high on Washington since landing his offer earlier this year. My feeling has been once he's on campus, either to close out the spring or sometime during the summer, he'll pull the trigger similar to Alex Cook on his second visit this spring.

2017 three-star Folsom (Calif.) outside linebacker/defensive end Ariel Ngata

Another Chris Petersen class, another prospect likely to make the pledge and come from Folsom High School. Ngata has maintained for months that Washington is his leader with Oregon and several other Pac-12 program coming hard after him.

However, Washington only has two defensive prospects committed thus far in defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu and cornerback Keith Taylor. With his spring visits winding down I would expect the 6'4, 200-pound defensive hybrid prospect to pull the trigger and commit to the Huskies.

2017 four-star Hayward (Calif.) Stellar Prep outside linebacker Addison Gumbs

The fifth and final prospect I have pegged to commit is one that might be a little surprisingly. However, Gumbs has already taken his unofficial visit to Washington the Huskies have long been thought to be a strong contender for his commitment.

While several other programs have come in with offers over the past couple of months, as things stand now I would have Gumbs slotted as the second linebacker taken by Washington. However, the position I have more faith in landing a commitment than specifically Gumbs, because Washington is keeping their eyes open with other four-star linebacker prospects....
